Why Interiors.sg

A directory, not another best-of list.

Neutral interior with pale timber cabinetry and a black arched glass door

Most people only ever see the firms that advertise. Interiors.sg lists hundreds of Singapore firms side by side, so you can start from the whole market instead of the loudest part of it.

Every listing shows where its information came from. As firms claim their pages and add their own details, you’ll see more about services, budgets and the kinds of homes they work on.

Before asking for quotations

How to shortlist an interior design firm in Singapore.

Good selection starts before the first sales meeting. Use the same brief and the same questions with every firm.

Minimal bedroom with warm timber panels, soft bedding and concealed lighting
  1. 01

    Write the brief before browsing

List the property type, rooms involved, target move-in date, must-keep items and the maximum amount you are prepared to spend. A clear brief makes every later comparison more useful.

  2. 02

    Build a small, relevant shortlist

Look for firms whose past work and services match your property and scope. Three to five firms is enough to compare properly; a long list just adds noise.

  3. 03

    Compare the same scope

Ask each firm to separate design, construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, appliances, professional fees and authority submissions. A lower total is not comparable if important items are missing.

  4. 04

    Verify the business independently

Confirm the entity name, UEN and current business status. For HDB renovation work, separately confirm that the contractor carrying out the work is in HDB’s current Directory of Renovation Contractors.

  5. 05

Meet the person running the project

Ask who will develop the design, prepare drawings, supervise the site and update you when something changes. Clarify how many projects that person is managing at the same time.

  6. 06

Read the contract as a project plan

Check the scope, materials, exclusions, variation process, payment stages, timeline, defect rectification and handover documents. Resolve vague wording before work starts.

Property context matters

The right questions change with the space.

A portfolio photo can’t tell you whether a firm knows the approvals, building rules and technical work your particular home needs.

HDB interior design

Flats and resale homes

Confirm who will carry out the renovation work and whether that contractor is currently listed in HDB’s Directory of Renovation Contractors. Ask which parts of the proposal need permits and who will submit them.

Read HDB’s renovation guidance

Condo interior design

Condominiums

Get the current renovation rules from the managing agent before you finalise the brief. Check working hours, deposits, lift protection, delivery access, wet-work rules and approval lead times before you agree to a schedule.

Landed interior design

Landed homes

Separate decoration and interior work from structural, façade, roof, drainage and building-services changes. Clarify early whether an architect, professional engineer or other qualified consultant is required.

Commercial interior design

Offices, retail and F&B

Alongside the design, settle who handles landlord approvals, fire safety and building services, what hours work can happen, what reinstatement the lease requires, and what downtime will cost you.

Labels on a listing

What the labels mean.

Directory listing

The basic tier. We found the firm in public records or on its own website, and show its name, website, UEN and HDB registration where we could confirm them.

Research profile

A fuller profile we compiled from business records and the firm’s own website: services, styles, registration details and award credits, each traced back to a source.

Managed listing

The business has claimed the page and manages its own details. Claiming a page doesn’t change where the firm appears in the directory.

HDB registered

The firm appeared in HDB’s Directory of Renovation Contractors when we last checked. That is a licensing fact, not a recommendation. Confirm it with HDB before you sign anything.

Independent checks

Verify before you appoint.

Written scopeKeep the quotation, drawings, specifications, variation rules and payment stages together. They should describe the same project.

Common questions

Interior design firms in Singapore: FAQ.

How do I choose an interior design firm in Singapore?

Start with a written brief, shortlist firms relevant to your property and scope, compare like-for-like written quotations, verify the contracting entity, and meet the person who will actually run the project. Taste matters, but so do a clear scope, good communication and a contract that says what it means.

What is the difference between an interior design firm and a renovation contractor?

An interior design scope may include space planning, concept development, material selection and drawings. A renovation contractor carries out the physical work. Many Singapore firms offer both, but the exact responsibility, contracting entity and permit role can vary, so ask who is accountable for each part.

Does HDB registration mean a firm is recommended?

No. HDB requires renovation work in HDB flats to be carried out by contractors in its Directory of Renovation Contractors. That status is an eligibility and compliance signal, not a guarantee of design quality, pricing, service or project fit.

Why do some firms have more information than others?

Some firms have only a basic listing, built from public records and their own website. Others have a research profile, because we found enough sourced material to describe their services, styles and credentials. A shorter listing means we found less, not that the firm is worse.

Is the cheapest renovation quote usually the best value?

Not necessarily. Check whether quotations cover the same materials, quantities, professional work, authority submissions, site protection, disposal, testing and defect rectification. A clear, complete scope is more useful than comparing headline totals alone.

Does a listing on Interiors.sg mean the firm is endorsed?

No. Being listed means we found enough public evidence that the firm is a real Singapore interior design business. The directory is alphabetical, not a ranking. You should still check current records, read the contract and make your own decision.
